READ is pleased to present a talk by Garry Neill Kennedy and to launch his two new books, The Last Art College (MIT Press) and Printed Matter 1971-2009 (National Gallery of Canada).
The Last Art College traces the experimental and conceptual activities at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1968 to 1978. Under the leadership of Kennedy NSCAD became the epicenter of art education. Visiting artists and faculty members included artists such as Joseph Beuys, Sol LeWitt, Dan Graham, Gerhard Richter, Yvonne Rainer, Lucy Lippard, John Baldessari, Vito Acconci and more. During this period the NSCAD Press was established and run by Benjamin Buchloh and Kasper Koenig who published books by leading minimalist and conceptual artists.
Garry Neill Kennedy: Printed Matter 1971-2009 catalogues over 100 pieces of printed matter created by or in collaboration with Kennedy, including previously unrecorded works. The items featured in the book range from books, pamphlets, leaflets, sheets, cards, pageworks, posters, and wallpaper. The book also includes an extensive bibliography on Kennedy.
